Following my diagnosis of ADHD and Autism at the age of 48, it’s fair to say that I had accumulated a lot of trauma in the years that I was undiagnosed. My diagnosis helped me to understand the reasons behind my challenges and differences, but I had no idea how to move forward in a world that isn’t set up to accommodate my neurodivergent mind. I made contact in the hope that someone could help me to come to terms with my diagnosis and to move forward with my life. After an initial consultation call, I was introduced to Jay.
Having had a lot of mental health counselling over the years, I knew what to expect; however, Jay took a different approach. Being neurodivergent himself, Jay understood the daily challenges I faced, and it was a relief to talk to someone who really gets me. He is so easy to get along with, and we connected straight away.
Jay helped me to understand how to work with my neurodivergent brain in a world that is set up to make it difficult for me to fit in and sets me up for failure. He helped me to strip life back to the things that are important to me and to understand how to work with my emotions instead of being stiff and resistant to them. Like everyone, I still have the ups and downs that life throws at me, but I now know how to ride the wave instead of getting stuck in a cycle of low mood and high anxiety. I give myself time to pause and then respond to challenging situations instead of reacting impulsively, and I now have a lot more positive interactions with the world around me because of this.
This short review doesn’t really do justice to the journey that Jay’s unique coaching style took me along. His forward-thinking approach really has changed my entire outlook on life. I now live every moment of my life, and rather than looking back, I look forward to the next exciting challenge.
